Amphigean delivers innovative solution for EAL

Earlier this year, Amphigean attended a Learning Technologies exhibition at the ExCel centre in London. We were just one of more than 200 exhibitors welcoming around 8,500 visitors to the venue, and it was there that we met representatives from EAL.

EAL is a specialist awarding organisation and skills partner for industry. It has long-term collaborations with professional bodies and employers, offering qualifications that are tailored to the needs of the engineering and manufacturing sectors. As for young people, in the last ten years, 1.3 million in the UK embarked on an EAL qualification in schools, academies, university technical colleges (UTCs), universities, and workplaces.

Many of the qualifications are supported with learning materials, but they have hitherto not been in a digital format, nor were they in bite-sized packages. That is where Amphigean was able to help, because we specialise in delivering high impact digital content and learning programmes, providing bespoke solutions to suit any company’s needs.

EAL had a requirement for a range of e-learning, centred on the maintenance of electronic equipment and systems. Topics covered included understanding how circuits work, recognising and analysing faults, diagnostic techniques and testing repairs. Amphigean assessed this need and after liaising closely with EAL to establish their key objectives, we produced a series of short animated videos that would take learners through the modules in an engaging way. These included ‘Diagnosing Systems’, ‘Demystifying Circuits’, and ‘Testing and Reporting’. The learning was embedded through practice within ‘Circuit Scenarios’ an interactive quiz which built on the basic knowledge of components to complex circuits with fault conditions to diagnose. Ongoing support was provided within the module to continue the learning and improve knowledge and skill retention.

Several of the Amphigean team have a strong background in electronic equipment and systems, and so we felt able to hit the ground running with this project. We were confident in the solutions that we provided for EAL, and pleased with the feedback that they gave us.

“Amphigean’s understanding of electronic equipment and systems was extremely valuable for this project, and their partnership with EAL centres OTC and North West Training Centre meant the resources they developed meet the needs of both learners and tutors for this unit of the Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations (PEO) qualification. The interactive videos and quiz are both engaging and educational and Amphigean went the extra mile to ensure the final product was exactly right.”

“We thoroughly enjoyed working with Bonita at EAL and a number of the colleges which EAL supports. It was important to make sure that whatever we produced would fit the learning programmes delivered by the colleges and their input in sharing their objectives was invaluable. We’re particularly pleased with the interactive quiz which helps apply the knowledge gained and yet continues to develop the learner at the same time.”
